Let’s talk Valentine’s Day plans. In the five years Nicky and I have been together, we have celebrated the holiday in a variety of ways ranging from grimy (but fun af*) concerts to ‘pinky’s up’ dinners and everything in between. Before Nicky and I met, and back when I was single, my girlfriends and I would also celebrate the holiday with some type of “Galentine’s Day” extravaganza. Because I consider this holiday to be more about experiences rather than material gifts, I’ve put together a list of Vday/Gday activity ideas and experiences for you.

AT HOME EXPERIENCES (work best as surprises):

  • At home turn-down service (make sure to include rose petals, dim candle light, a charcuterie board and/or chocolate covered strawberries and end with a bubble bath)
  • Three to five-course home-cooked dinner with wine pairing
  • Cozy movie night (order pizza, a bottle or two of wine and prep your living room with lots of fluffy pillows, blankets and candles)

OTHER EXPERIENCES (require booking ahead of time):

  • Romantic helicopter ride with picnic & champagne (Nicky and I did this in LA)
  • Burlesque show or concert
  • Weekend getaway trip or stay-cation
  • Valentine’s Day pre-set menu dinner experience (most upscale restaurants will offer some version of this)
  • Hot air balloon ride

GALENTINES IDEAS:

  • Sleep-over (bake cookies, watch old high-school movies, make home-made chocolate/espresso martinis, rearrange living room and turn it into cozy lounge with lots of blankets and pillows)
  • White Elephant & game night (exchange gifts and play board games)
